Send the bid request to the companies you already work with. Use a saved list, invite one name, or email a partner who is not on KNTRCTR yet. Right now that same request is in email, in a text, and in somebody's head. Here the invite, the scope, and the replies sit together.

On the job, that block is labeled Crew Control. It is who you invite to bid, not the people on your own team.

Set the scope

Bid expectations put the spec on the request. A 30-ton excavator with a thumb. #57 stone by the ton. Prevailing wage, union or open. Every bidder answers the same lines.

Most bidding software treats that as a note at the bottom. Heavy civil buys equipment, tickets, and units. Put them on the form so the prices come back comparable.

  • Equipment specs as a requirement, not a note at the bottom.
  • Personnel and certifications on the request. Union or open, ticketed or not.
  • On a quote line, turn on Create Quantity so they enter a unit rate against your tons or hours.

The agencies already qualify you on your equipment and your people. Your requests should ask the same way.

Compare and level bids

On a quote bid expectation, turn on Create Quantity, set how many units you need, and add an optional unit of measure. When a sub submits, they enter a unit rate. KNTRCTR multiplies rate times quantity so everyone is pricing the same tons or hours.

If a bid still is not the same job, you level beside the submitted number. The original stays visible.

  • Leave Create Quantity off for a simple lump-sum quote line.
  • Existing bids keep the quantity they were submitted against if you change it later.
  • A new quantity is a leveling change, not a rewrite of their bid.

Post a bid request

Reuse a past bid request and the short ones take two minutes. You need six trucks Tuesday, it goes out Monday morning to the haulers you already run with.

The same job form handles the six month package with twelve requirements and four attachments. One place for both.

How can I invite my existing subcontractors to bid on a job?

You can invite existing subcontractors directly, invite from saved lists, or use mass CSV upload to bring in your current contacts first. You can also email a partner who is not on KNTRCTR yet.

Jobs stay private unless you choose public inside KNTRCTR. Public still means signed-in KNTRCTR users, not the open web.

On the job, that invite block is labeled Crew Control. It is who you invite to bid, not the people on your own team.

Once your network is organized, posting a job and inviting your known subcontractors takes only a few clicks.

What is unit pricing on a bid expectation?

On a quote Bid Expectation, job posters can turn on Create Quantity and set the quantity needed, plus an optional unit of measure (for example Sq Ft or Linear Ft).

Bidders then enter a unit rate. KNTRCTR multiplies rate × quantity to calculate the line total, so everyone prices against the same quantity.

Leave Create Quantity off if you want a simple lump-sum quote line. Unit pricing is optional and can be edited later on the job.

If the poster later changes the quantity, existing bids keep the quantity they were submitted against. Adjustments for the new quantity belong in bid leveling.

Do invited subcontractors get notified when I change a job?

Yes. Invited subs get an email every time you adjust the scope, upload a new attachment, or add a new requirement. They get it when you save.

Invited subs who have not shared a status also get a weekly reminder until they do.

Job updates and reminders

How do reviews work?

After a job is completed, both parties are asked to leave a review.

As the lead contractor, you choose whether your review stays internal to your company or rolls into that subcontractor's public score on KNTRCTR. Making it public does not publish your full written review for everyone to read; it feeds into their average so other companies hiring or working with that company can see how they are rated overall.

Subcontractors who subscribe can open that shared written feedback, and they get Rex AI on the draft so they can check the next bid before they send.
